Youth HELP Foundation Launched in Washington DC with Turks and Caicos Premier’s Classic Events8/25/2022 Mr. Stuart Ewing. President of the Youth HELP Foundation The Youth HELP Foundation held its inaugural TCI Premier’s VIP Cocktail Reception and Golf Classic on August 18th and 19th, 2022 at the JW Marriott in Washington DC and at the Westfield Golf Club in Clifton, Virginia. The VIP Cocktail Reception, held under the patronage of the Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Dr. The Hon. Charles Washington Misick saw in attendance First Lady Mrs. Delthia Russell Misick; Minister Education, Labour, Employment and Customer Services Hon. Rachel Taylor; Minister of Immigration and Border Services, Hon. Arlington Musgrove; and Representatives of the Office of the Deputy Mayor of Washington DC, Mr. Andreas Hayes, and Mr. Andrew Jacobson. Hosts and Committee members of the Youth Help Foundation, Dr. The Hon. Rufus W. Ewing and Dr. Dawn Perry-Ewing along with a team of volunteers from the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, welcomed guests and golf participants to the two-day event and thanked them for their support of the foundation. A welcome message from the President of the foundation Stuart Ewing, a final year medical student at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, was read in absentia to the gathering by Dr. Dawn Perry Ewing. His message introduced the foundation as a global charitable organization whose mandate is to support and empower vulnerable children and youth to maximize their potential by enabling equitable resources for Health and Education Literacy Programs (HELP). The President’s message indicated that the foundation provided grant funding to other non-profit and civil society organizations to implement HELP programs. The President in his message indicated that the Foundation had invited the Hon Premier and his Cabinet members and representatives from the TCI Tourism industry to network with counterparts in the Washington DC area as the Foundation recognized that the economic development of the Turks and Caicos strengthens the chances for the advancement of youth in the TCI. The President’s message was followed by remarks from former Premier Dr. The Hon. Rufus Ewing, who urged the guests to support the foundation and its initiatives. Other speakers included Mr. Andres Hayes, representing the Office of the Deputy Mayor of Washington DC, Dr. Amber Mason Child Clinical Psychologist, Artist Mr. Bradley Theodore (donor), Mrs. Stacy Cox from the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association, and an address by Premier Dr. The Hon. Charles Washington Misick. Hon Misick outlined areas of opportunity for investment and trade within the TCI to the gathering. The event was well attended by sponsors, travel partners from the Washington DC area, investors, dignitaries, members of the Turks and Caicos Islands and Caribbean Diaspora, and individuals who traveled from the Turks and Caicos Islands. The Premier’s Golf Classic held on the following day was also deemed a success with the foursome scramble being played at the prestigious Westfields Golf Club. The tournament was followed by an awards dinner and trophies were awarded to third, second, and first-place finishers as outlined below: First Place: Aubrey Jennings, Dwight Forrester, Garold Hamilton, and Michael Graham Second Place: Larry Braxton, Jeffery Walters, Donald Erdman, and Laurence Sheker Third Place: Zane Kirby, Matt Higgenson, Eben Peck, and Christopher Higgenson A prize was also awarded to the youngest golfer, 12-year-old Christopher Higgenson, exemplifying the ethos of the Youth HELP Foundation. The Youth HELP Foundation in keeping with its mandate to empower young people facilitated meetings between the Premier’s delegation and Dr. Wayne Fredericks, President of Howard University, and Hon. Cynthia Balwin, Chair of the Fulbright Association to leverage educational opportunities for the Turks and Caicos Islands and build socio-economic bridges between the Turks and Caicos and US communities and Institutions.
